Abigail Patterson began dancing at the age of 3 at the Recreation Department in Brookhaven, MS. She went on to take classes from Nena Smith in Wesson, MS, Ballet Magnificat! in Jackson, and for several years from Susan White in McComb, MS. While with Susan White, Abigail learned much about performing and productions. In 1999, Abigail returned to Ballet Magnificat! for training in classical ballet and jazz. While a student there, she studied under Rick and Rose Faucher, Dena Dryden, Yvette Koonce, and Sol Nazario, and for several summers attended Ballet Magnificat!'s Summer Dance Intensive, taking classes from Kathy Thibodeaux and other company members.
After graduating from 13 years of homeschooling, Abigail attended Holmes Community College for 2 years, and Belhaven University as a student in the Dance Department.
When Abigail was 14, during a Rebecca St. James concert, she felt a calling from God to use her dance to reach young people for Him. As a teen, she founded, directed and performed in Cross-Tied Youth Ministries, a performing arts ministry that combined drama and dance into a powerful message of hope in Christ.
Abigail has been teaching over 25 years, first at a church in McComb, and later in the small studio her parents made in their Brookhaven home. After moving to Madison in 2001, Abigail taught for two years in the Ballet Magnificat! School of the Arts, first in the Lower School and later Ballet I and II in the Upper School. She also began teaching in Brandon, MS, where she grew her dance program at FBC Brandon under the guidance of the Music and Worship Ministry for 12 years. In 2015, Cross-Tied Ministries School of Dance relocated to Pearl, MS.
Through the years, Abigail has trained and mentored many young dancers, with several going on to study and dance at Belhaven University, the Ballet Magnificat! Trainee Program, and other out-of-state professional dance schools.
A classical Vagonova-based ballet curriculum designed to achieve consistent student progression is used by Abigail in all her classes
